For 14 years, I was a financial advisor to some of the wealthiest families in the country. I understood money technically better than almost anyone I knew.
And I had never felt more lost.
I was drinking too much, lying to people I loved, and watching the distance between who I was and who I wanted to be get wider every year. In August 2024, that caught up with me. I was arrested and spent six months in jail. And for the first time in a long time, I had no choice but to stop and look honestly at my life.
What came next changed everything.
In recovery, I started working the 12 steps. And somewhere in that process, I had a realization I couldn't shake: the same patterns driving my addiction were driving my clients' financial lives. The denial. The avoidance. The shame. The compulsive behavior. The way money became tied to identity and self-worth in ways that had nothing to do with the numbers.
Most people don't struggle with money because they're bad at math. They struggle because nobody has ever helped them address what's underneath.
I started ClearPath Financial Coaching to do exactly that. My program applies the 12-step framework to personal finances, because the structure that has helped millions of people recover from addiction works just as well for financial recovery. And I know that firsthand.
I'm also writing a book about it. It comes out in early 2027. If you want to follow the journey, sign up for the newsletter below.
